AprilAire vs Santa Fe: whole-house dehumidifiers compared

By Julien Fourel · How we compare

Same filing company. Research Products files both brands with the EPA.

The short answer

SFChoose Santa Fe if

  • efficiency comes first: IEF 2.45 to 3.26 across Santa Fe, against 2.35 for every AprilAire.
  • you need more than 105 pints a day: the Ultra V155 at 128 and the Ultra V205 at 172 pints.
  • you prefer a lower-GWP refrigerant: R-454B, rated 470.

AAChoose AprilAire if

  • you need a 65-pint unit: the E080 has no certified Santa Fe match.
  • you prefer a model with a few years behind it: the E130 since 2019, the E080 since 2021, and the E100 since 2021.

* The EPA record for E100 gives no GWP; the list rates the same refrigerant (R-32) at 675 for other models. Sources: EPA list of Oct 15, 2026 for the models, EIA (July 2026) for prices.

The EPA’s yearly energy figures don’t line up

These two 85-pint units have almost the same efficiency, yet the EPA lists one at 821 kWh a year and the other at 419. A third unit of the same size, at IEF 2.35, is listed at 2,391 kWh. For whole-house units, the yearly figure isn’t comparable from one brand to the next.

Questions

What people ask about these two brands

Each answer comes from the EPA list, with its date.

Ask us a question
Are AprilAire and Santa Fe the same company?

On the EPA list, one company files both brands: Research Products. The two lines differ in size range, efficiency, and refrigerant.

EPA list, Oct 15, 2026
Which one is more efficient?

Santa Fe, by the highest rating: IEF 3.26 liters per kWh (Ultra V155). AprilAire sits at 2.35, Santa Fe ranges 2.45 to 3.26. At the same size, a higher IEF means less power for the same water removed.

EPA list, Oct 15, 2026
Why do the EPA’s yearly energy figures differ so much?

The EPA list doesn’t explain it. Whole-house units with almost the same efficiency are listed at very different yearly figures. Until we can cite the method, we compare whole-house units on efficiency and on the cost to remove 100 pints.
