Prices for July 2026, read Oct 18, 2026.
Homes and cooling
U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2020 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS), state data (opens in a new tab).
How homes in each state are cooled, whether they have a basement or use a dehumidifier, and their average floor area. The Florida and Hawaii guides quote these figures.
Survey of 2020, tables published March 2023, read Oct 6, 2026.
Recalls
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, recalls (opens in a new tab).
18 dehumidifier recalls: date, units, hazard, remedy, brands, and model numbers named.

Program rules
ENERGY STAR (U.S. EPA), ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Dehumidifiers, Version 6.0 (opens in a new tab).
Which products the program covers (consumer dehumidifiers) and how it defines a dehumidifier.
In effect since Oct 1, 2025, read Oct 5, 2026.
Crawl spaces
U.S. Department of Energy, Building America Solution Center, Look at Crawlspace for Moisture Issues (opens in a new tab).
What signals moisture problems in a crawl space, and the role of a dehumidifier in a sealed one.
Page updated Sep 10, 2025, read Oct 5, 2026.
DOE certification filings
U.S. Department of Energy, Compliance Certification Database (opens in a new tab).
The capacity and efficiency filed for each model sold in the United States: 1,209 entries. We use it only for models that aren’t on the EPA list, and say so on their page. The database blocks automated access, so we read an export made by hand.
Export of Oct 5, 2026.
Federal rules
Code of Federal Regulations, 10 CFR Part 430, sections 430.2 and 430.32, and Appendix X1 to Subpart B (opens in a new tab).
The legal definition of a dehumidifier, portable or whole-house, and the minimum efficiency every unit sold must reach. It also gives the conditions of the federal test: 65°F and 60% humidity for portables, 73°F for whole-house units.
Annual edition revised as of Jan 1, 2025, on govinfo.gov, read Oct 7, 2026.
Lifetime
U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Conservation Standards for Dehumidifiers, final rule (Federal Register) (opens in a new tab).
The average lifetime the DOE estimated when it set today’s standards: about 11 years for a portable, 19 for a whole-house unit.
Published Jun 13, 2016, read Oct 5, 2026.
Test rules
U.S. Department of Energy, Test Procedures for Dehumidifiers, final rule (Federal Register) (opens in a new tab).
How capacity is rated since 2019, and which machines the rules cover: refrigerant units, not desiccant-only ones.

Store ranges
AlorAir and Argendon, product feeds of their affiliate programs, through Awin.

Feeds imported Jun 26, Jun 27, and Jun 29, 2026, read Oct 6, 2026.
Model names
Retail listings, HVACDirect product pages (not linked: we may apply to its affiliate program).
