Commercial dehumidifier: what the certified list covers, and its biggest units

ENERGY STAR® certifies consumer products only, so units built for business aren’t on its list.

2 picks that fit

How we pick

How we pick. The 10 certified whole-house models rated 80 pints a day or more. One pick per capacity band: 85 to 100 pints a day and 100 and over. Each is sold by a store we link to. Within each band, the highest efficiency (IEF) wins, then the larger capacity. We show no yearly cost, since the EPA doesn’t publish how it works out these units’ yearly figures. Stores never pay for a place.

Units built for business, and how to read their pints

AlorAir and Argendon sell restoration and crawl space units that aren’t on the EPA list. Our sources publish no figures for them. Their listings rate capacity under different conditions from the federal test, so those pints can’t sit next to the ones above.

The EPA’s example: a unit sold as 70 pints before 2019 rates about 40–45 pints today. Whole-house units are rated at 73°F.

The integrated energy factor is the liters of water a unit removes per kWh, rated the same way for every brand. Certified units in this guide run from 2.22 to 3.26 L/kWh. Without that figure, you can’t compare a unit with them.

Questions

What people ask before buying

Why aren’t commercial dehumidifiers on the ENERGY STAR list?

The program covers consumer products: ones sold, to any significant extent, for personal use by individuals. That’s the federal definition its Version 6.0 specification uses, in effect since Oct 1, 2025.

A unit sold mainly to businesses falls outside it, so the EPA list has nothing to say about it.

What’s the biggest certified dehumidifier?

The Santa Fe Ultra V205, a whole-house unit rated 172.13 pints a day. No certified portable goes past 50 pints. Of the whole-house models, 10 are rated 80 pints or more.

How do I compare big units?

By efficiency first. ENERGY STAR measures it as the integrated energy factor, liters of water removed per kWh: higher is better. Among these units it runs from 2.22 to 3.26 L/kWh.

Then by what removing 100 pints costs at your state’s price, as the short answer above shows.

Does the capacity hold in a cold warehouse?

Not always. Below 65°F, ENERGY STAR warns, frost can form on the coils. If the space runs that cool, it suggests a product specified for lower temperatures. The EPA list doesn’t give each model’s lowest working temperature.
