Our read

Who it suits

Rated 50 pints a day, the DH50PWB is sized for every space in the ENERGY STAR table, wet ones over 2,000 sq ft included. Its running cost is close to the median, so drainage, noise, and price matter more.

Running cost

Running cost won’t decide it

The DOE puts a portable’s average life at 11 years. Over that time, this model costs $10 more to run in the United States than the median 45–50 pint model. The thriftiest 45–50 pint model, the Aeocky LEO PRO-RCS50(Y)-N4-3(B)-25, would save $175 over those years.

The EPA doesn’t list the DH50PWB as connected. Of the 156 certified 45–50 pint models, 14 are. In a crawl space you rarely open, a connected one saves the trip.

Neither figure is in our sources for the DH50PWB. Without a floor drain below it, a pump has to lift the water to a sink. Basements run cool, and below 65°F, ENERGY STAR says frost can form on the coils.

From the data

Where it stands

  • Uses 525 kWh a year, 5 kWh over the median of its class.
  • Its refrigerant is R-32, flagged as lower GWP.Global warming potential 675.
  • Among the 156 certified 45–50 pint portables, 102 use less energy.
  • The federal floor for its class is 1.60 liters per kWh. It reaches 2.01, or 26% more. That floor covers portables rated over 25 and up to 50 pints a day, for units made since June 13, 2019.
  • The largest portable certified under the DuraComfort name. Next down is the DH25F, at 24 pints. That one uses 234 kWh a year less.
  • On the market since January 2026, newer than 65% of the 45–50 pint models on the list.
  • Not on the EPA’s Most Efficient list, which names 8 of the 45–50 pint models.
  • The Gasbye DryPrime-50-B is the closest size from another brand, rated 50 pints and 525 kWh a year. Both cost the same to run in the United States.

in the United States

Run for a whole day at its rating, the DH50PWB removes 49.7 pints, about 6.2 gallons, on roughly 11.7 kWh. In the United States, that’s $2.14.

Divide the EPA’s 525 kWh a year by one full day’s use, and you get roughly 45 days. Past that, each day at full output adds $2.14 to the bill.

The DOE test behind those 49.7 pints runs at 65°F and 60% humidity. At the same humidity, a cooler basement gets less water out of the DH50PWB.

Without a hose or a pump, someone has to carry out 6.2 gallons a day. Our sources don’t say whether the DH50PWB has a bucket, or how much it holds.
