Our read

Who it suits

Rated 32 pints a day, the AR-DF005 is sized for a wet space under 2,000 sq ft, or a damp one over. It’s one of the cheaper models of its size to run.

Running cost

Cheaper to run than most 29–44 pint models

It uses 36 kWh a year less than the median 29–44 pint model. Over 11 years, the DOE’s average life for a portable, that’s about $73 saved in the United States.

The EPA doesn’t list the AR-DF005 as connected. Of the 87 certified 29–44 pint models, 8 are. In a crawl space you rarely open, a connected one saves the trip.

Neither figure is in our sources for the AR-DF005. Without a floor drain below it, a pump has to lift the water to a sink. Basements run cool, and below 65°F, ENERGY STAR says frost can form on the coils.

From the data

Where it stands

  • Uses 338 kWh a year, 36 kWh under the median of its class.
  • Its refrigerant is R-32, flagged as lower GWP.Global warming potential 675.
  • Of the 87 certified 29–44 pint portables, 6 use less energy.
  • At 2.15 liters per kWh, it clears the federal minimum for its class by 34%.The DOE sets 1.60 L/kWh for portables rated over 25 and up to 50 pints a day. Every unit made since June 13, 2019, must meet it.
  • Arecovas’s next size down is the AR-DF006, rated 25 pints. That one uses 53 kWh a year less.
  • Sold since March 2026. Among 29–44 pint models, 72 of 87 came out earlier.
  • Not on the EPA’s Most Efficient list, which names 1 of the 29–44 pint models.
  • Another brand near this size: the Aeocky LEO-RCS32(Y)-N4-3(B), at 32 pints and 336 kWh a year. Both cost the same to run in the United States.

Our arithmetic

One full day of drying

Water

Electricity

Cost

$1.29

in the United States

A day of nonstop drying means 32 pints of water, about 4 gallons, for some 7.0 kWh. At the average home electricity price in the United States, the AR-DF005 costs $1.29 to run that day.

The EPA’s yearly estimate, 338 kWh, adds up to about 48 days like that. Each extra day at full output costs another $1.29.

Those 32 pints come from a DOE test at 65°F and 60% humidity. Cooler air at that humidity gives up less water, so expect fewer pints in a cold basement.

Every day at full output leaves 4 gallons to get rid of. Check how the AR-DF005 drains, since our sources don’t say.
