Running cost

Cheaper to run than most 29–44 pint models

It uses 39 kWh a year less than the median 29–44 pint model. Over 11 years, the DOE’s average life for a portable, that’s about $79 saved in the United States.

Wi-Fi app

You can check it from your phone

Of the 87 certified 29–44 pint models, only 8 have a Wi-Fi app, and the DR-HDH004S is one. In a basement or crawl space you rarely visit, you read the humidity without going down.

Neither figure is in our sources for the DR-HDH004S. Without a floor drain below it, a pump has to lift the water to a sink. Basements run cool, and below 65°F, ENERGY STAR says frost can form on the coils.

From the data

Where it stands

  • At 335 kWh a year, it sits 39 kWh below the middle of its class.
  • Its refrigerant is R-32, flagged as lower GWP.Global warming potential 675.
  • Among the 87 certified 29–44 pint portables, 2 use less energy.
  • The federal floor for its class is 1.60 liters per kWh. It reaches 2.01, or 26% more. That floor covers portables rated over 25 and up to 50 pints a day, for units made since June 13, 2019.
  • The largest portable certified under the Dreo name. Next down is the DR-HDH003S, at 22 pints. That one uses 64 kWh a year less.
  • On the market since March 2026, newer than 79% of the 29–44 pint models on the list.
  • Not on the EPA’s Most Efficient list, which names 1 of the 29–44 pint models.
  • The Aeocky LEO-RCS32(Y)-N4-3(B) is the closest size from another brand, rated 32 pints and 336 kWh a year.In the United States, this one costs $1 a year less to run.

Cost

$1.37

in the United States

Run for a whole day at its rating, the DR-HDH004S removes 31.71 pints, about 4 gallons, on roughly 7.5 kWh. In the United States, that’s $1.37.

Divide the EPA’s 335 kWh a year by one full day’s use, and you get roughly 45 days. Past that, each day at full output adds $1.37 to the bill.

The DOE test behind those 31.71 pints runs at 65°F and 60% humidity. At the same humidity, a cooler basement gets less water out of the DR-HDH004S.

Without a hose or a pump, someone has to carry out 4 gallons a day. Our sources don’t say whether the DR-HDH004S has a bucket, or how much it holds.
