Our read
On the ENERGY STAR table, the FHDD3534Y1 suits a wet space under 2,000 sq ft, or a damp one over. Its running cost is close to the median, so drainage, noise, and price matter more.

Running cost
A portable lasts 11 years on average, by the DOE’s count. In that time, this model costs $10 more to run in the United States than the median 29–44 pint model. The thriftiest 29–44 pint model, the Deciuu LIBRA-RCS32(Y)-N4-3(B), would save $93 over those years.

The EPA doesn’t list the FHDD3534Y1 as connected. Of the 87 certified 29–44 pint models, 8 are. In a crawl space you rarely open, a connected one saves the trip.

Our sources don’t say whether the FHDD3534Y1 has a pump, or how cold it can run. With no drain lower than the unit, the pump lift must reach your sink. Under 65°F, ENERGY STAR says the coils can frost.

in the United States
Run for a whole day at its rating, the FHDD3534Y1 removes 35.85 pints, about 4.5 gallons, on roughly 8.4 kWh. In the United States, that’s $1.55.
Divide the EPA’s 379 kWh a year by one full day’s use, and you get roughly 45 days. Past that, each day at full output adds $1.55 to the bill.
The DOE test behind those 35.85 pints runs at 65°F and 60% humidity. At the same humidity, a cooler basement gets less water out of the FHDD3534Y1.
Without a hose or a pump, someone has to carry out 4.5 gallons a day. Our sources don’t say whether the FHDD3534Y1 has a bucket, or how much it holds.
